Hi, I'm Aaron James Lenzi! I'm a gymnast, martial artist and a five-time Special Olympics World Games bronze medallist.
In June 2023, I had the incredible honour of representing Team Ireland at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. It was an amazing experience, and I was so proud to bring home bronze medals for the floor, rings, parallel bars, horizontal bar, and the all-around competition.
That same year, I was also incredibly proud to be named the Newry, Mourne and Down Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability and to receive a Special Recognition Award from British Gymnastics.
When I'm not in the gym, you can find me practising Taekwondo, where I'm currently working towards my green belt. I've also recently joined the Stewart Martial Arts and fitness class in Ballynahinch. My ultimate dream is to one day open my own dojo and teach self-defence to all my friends! I also enjoy rapping to Aitch and Stormzy and love freerunning!!
I currently work 3 days a week at Harry's Cafe, which is a multi-award-winning Community Interest Company helping adults with learning difficulties and autism. I also attend their mates' social club 3 days a week.
I believe that everyone deserves the chance to be included and to have their voice heard. By encouraging people with disabilities to take on leadership roles, we can build a more inclusive world for everyone.
